Warriors Day: Interact with Canadian military history Warriors Day at Coe Hill is a military exhibition and an opportunity for visitors to interact with the equipment and technology Canadian soldiers have used over the past 100 years.
By: Henry Stancu Staff Reporter, Published on Thu Aug 27 2015 The annual Warriors Day at Coe Hill weekend is a great way to experience the technology and equipment used by Canadian forces and allies for over a century.
And what better way is there to enhance our younger generation's knowledge and appreciation of our nation’s storied military and wartime history?
Like a vintage car show, except in this case the vehicles featured on display and on the move are the kind that have been used by Canadian, American and British troops in a variety of defensive campaigns around the globe since WWI, but predominantly from the Second World War.
The highlight of this Labour Day weekend event is one of the largest parades of privately-owned military cars, trucks, motorcycles, armoured vehicles and tanks anywhere in Ontario.
There’s also an aerial display (weather permitting) Sunday with the sky diving Canadian Armed Forces parachute team, the SkyHawks, who jump at 6,000 feet from a Hercules aircraft into the fairgrounds, with their maneuverable square ram-air Canadian flag parachutes, and a fly over by a 1913 SE5A fighter biplane, just like one of models WWI flying ace Billy Bishop flew. Skyhawks dive into Coe Hill

On Sunday, Sept. 2, the Skyhawks parachute team based in CFB Trenton made an impressive aerial display in the skies over Coe Hill as part of the Warriors Day presentation at the fairgrounds.
There was an amazing demonstration of sky diving, all but one of the eight divers landed exactly on the target set out in the field in front of the grandstands.
Divers jumped from a brand new C130J Hercules aircraft.
Master Corporal Natacha Card explained that the new “Hercs” are even larger than the older models often seen flying over North Hastings on training flights.
“We will do 30 shows across Canada, the U.S.A. and in Belgium this year,” she said. “We are thrilled to be in Coe Hill today.” More...

WHEEL IS MEMORIAL TO AFGHAN SOLDIERS

Symbol of one of mankind's most brilliant ideas, a special wheel is now serving as a memorial to Canadian soldiers who served in Afghanistan.
The wheel is a heavy duty part of a Canadian military engineering vehicle called a "Badger," which was destroyed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
The Badger is a specialized engineering vehicle mounted on a Leopard tank chassis, explained John Sherry, who, as director of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment Military Museum has arranged for the museum to borrow the relic for a few weeks.
Even with parts of it obviously blown away, the large, solid wheel weighs more than 400 pounds, said Sherry. More...
